About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Content Strategy, Communications based in the United States. This is a senior leadership role shaping how mission-driven storytelling is conceived, produced, and distributed across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities
- Define and lead a comprehensive editorial and content strategy aligned with organizational priorities, campaigns, and advocacy goals.
- Steward and evolve a consistent brand voice, messaging framework, and editorial standards across all communications channels.
- Create and produce high-impact content including articles, reports, newsletters, social media, digital campaigns, and multimedia assets.
- Manage and optimize editorial workflows, content calendars, and publishing operations to ensure consistency, quality, and timeliness.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of writers, digital content specialists, and social media professionals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership, program, fundraising, and advocacy teams to translate complex topics into accessible storytelling.
- Oversee digital content performance, including SEO, analytics, audience engagement, and continuous optimization of distribution strategies.
- Ensure editorial integrity through fact-checking, review processes, and adherence to ethical storytelling standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field preferred (or equivalent professional experience).
- 5+ years of senior-level experience leading editorial strategy, content development, or digital communications.
- 3+ years of experience managing and developing creative or communications teams.
- Strong editorial judgment with exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to design and implement content strategies, brand messaging systems, and editorial governance frameworks.
- Experience translating complex policy, legal, research, or advocacy topics into accessible content for diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with experience managing editorial workflows and content pipelines.
- Proficiency with CMS platforms, digital analytics tools, SEO best practices, and multi-channel publishing.
- Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven communications strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to mission-driven work and the ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-impact communications environment.
