Head Custodian

About the role

The Head Custodian position is an overnight position working from 9:00pm - 5:30am (approximately). This position reports to the Recreation Custodial Supervisor and supervises part-time custodians and facility attendants.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction and support to custodial staff.
• Order, organize, maintain and recommend purchases for janitorial equipment and supplies.
• Research equipment and supplies, negotiate pricing and review invoices for payment.
• Prepare and present reports on building condition and needs.
• Maintain custodial MSDS books and monitor for bio-hazard waste removal.
• Perform cleaning, janitorial and sanitation duties on Community Center and Field House facilities and/or other assigned facilities as requested.
• Assist maintenance with larger seasonal cleaning jobs.
• Assist maintenance with seasonal decorations.
• Organize, maintain and recommend purchases for janitorial equipment and supplies.
• Affirm cleaning needs and adjust janitorial and sanitation schedules as necessary.
• Clean and report graffiti, vandalism and other incidents.
• Assist facility managers and facility maintenance personnel with various daily tasks as requested.
• Operate small tools, cleaning and electronic equipment.
• Conform to building uniform and dress code policy.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers.
• Comply with City and departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation requirements at a public facility.
• Knowledge of the safe and effective use and application of cleaning agents and solvents.
• Ability to safely and effectively operate cleaning equipment.
• Ability to accept direction, attend to detail, follow through independently, and work at a fast pace.
• Ability to physically perform the duties required.
• Ability to exercise initiative and good judgement.
• Ability to work independently and react quickly to problem solving situations.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
• Formal training and/or certification in the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years previous janitorial or custodial work experience, preferably in a public facility or any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
