About the role
Thalle, established in 1947, is a heavy civil construction company with a corporate office in Hillsborough, NC and a regional office in Alvarado, Texas. Thalle currently manages projects across the United States, including New York, South Florida, and Texas, with ongoing expansion plans.
Responsibilities
- Install, lay out, align, fit, and assemble HDPE and mechanical piping systems in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and applicable standards.
- Perform butt fusion and/or electrofusion welding of HDPE pipe using approved fusion equipment, procedures, and manufacturer requirements.
- Perform mechanical pipe fitting, including measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bolting, flanging, and assembling pipe and fittings as required.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, isometric drawings, specifications, layouts, and manufacturer installation requirements.
- Safely operate and maintain HDPE fusion machines, generators, facing tools, heaters, cutting tools, threading/grooving equipment, and other pipe-fitting tools.
- Verify pipe alignment, elevations, measurements, and fit-up prior to fusion, welding, or mechanical connections.
- Perform visual inspections and quality checks to ensure completed pipe installations and connections meet project requirements.
- Maintain accurate fusion records, installation documentation, and quality-control information when required.
- Follow all company and project safety policies, including taking specific action to avoid other workers, equipment, and potential obstructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and properly store tools and materials.
- Work collaboratively with crew members, foremen, inspectors, operators, and other trades to meet project schedules and production goals.
- Be willing and able to perform general manual labor and other construction duties when not actively fitting or installing pipe.
- Conduct all work with 100% integrity, professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an HDPE Pipe Fitter, Mechanical Pipe Fitter, Pipe Fitter, or similar construction position.
- Demonstrated experience installing and fitting HDPE and/or mechanical piping systems on heavy civil, utility, industrial, municipal, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience working with HDPE pipe in the 8”-22” size range preferred.
- Experience with HDPE butt fusion and/or electrofusion preferred.
- HDPE fusion certification from a recognized manufacturer or training provider (such as McElroy or equivalent) preferred or required based on project needs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical pipe-fitting methods, including flanged, bolted, grooved, threaded, and/or mechanical coupling connections.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and written and oral instructions.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and pipe-fitting equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding construction work.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment and follow all safety and quality requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Work long shifts with non-standard break times.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
- Able to work in confined or enclosed spaces.
- Able to sit for long periods of time.
- Able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
- Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more).
- Able to Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet (or more) off the ground.
- Able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment).
- Able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment).
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Able to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
