About the Role
This outside sales position is responsible for developing, growing, and selling HDD tooling and accessories for down-hole drills, steering equipment, and products used in daily drilling projects and conduit pull-back operations within an assigned geographic territory.
Responsibilities
- Communicate current and future product offerings, technological initiatives, product enhancements, new product introductions, and market strategies.
- Provide suggested solutions for unique drilling project needs.
- Establish and maintain customer relationships, deliver exceptional customer service, and recommend accessories based on customer needs, cost, availability, and specifications.
- Understand customers' business models to influence key decision-makers.
- Conduct market research to identify customer needs, market drivers, and disseminate insights back to the Vermeer Texas-Louisiana organization.
- Align sales plans with sales forecasts and strategies.
- Apply knowledge of bore rig set-up, fluid mixing, and down-hole tooling to maximize daily production.
- Demonstrate products that locate underground utilities and pipelines, monitor locating processes during drilling, and provide field training and consultation on product information.
- Read blueprints for underground utilities and piping.
- Promote and reinforce Vermeer’s image as a total solutions provider.
- Analyze product versatility, accuracy, and enhancements.
- Resolve customer issues, including researching complex data to provide alternative solutions.
- Work independently but collaborate with sales, parts, and service subject matter experts on unusual or complex problems to facilitate leads and assist in the sales process.
- Provide general guidance or mentor/train new sales specialists.
- Sell service programs, including machine maintenance, repair, inspection, appraisal, and oil sampling programs.
- Complete all reporting requirements per company guidelines and meet compliance requirements.
- Estimate production rates, factoring in cost reductions related to restrictions, support equipment, and labor requirements.
- Assist in developing product aids to share with customers.
- Represent the company at factory, industry, and company events, including meetings and training.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management professionally and efficiently.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational training/certification.
- Engineering, mechanical, or technical degree/certificate preferred, or equivalent experience in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD).
- Strong knowledge of HDD, interpersonal, technical, and selling skills.
- Highly motivated, reliable, ethical, and a problem solver.
- Professional, respectful, and honest communication with customers and co-workers at all times; profanity-free and composed demeanor.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs., stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and hear.
- May be required to climb, balance, and sit for extended periods.
- May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and moderate to high noise levels.
- Background check and pre-employment drug testing required.
- Neat and clean personal appearance.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driver policy requirements (motor vehicle records reviewed annually).
Travel
80% travel within the Northwest & North Central Texas region.
