About the role

The Licensed Emergency Department Technician provides direct patient care that encompasses the nursing assistant role, phlebotomy, 12-lead ECG tracings and assisting with O2 needs. Under the direct supervision of the RN, they participate in cost containment, maintain a safe work environment, and adhere to all policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Participation in cost containment development/maintenance of positive work environment minimizing overtime
  • Attending required classes and meetings
  • Participating in unit committees
  • Adhering to all policies and procedures
  • Promoting Patient Safety: applying protective devices correctly, anticipating patient requests, making rounds every hour as a minimum, assisting RN in planning patient care, maintaining a safe unit environment
  • Promoting Infection Control: washing hands before and after patient contact, handling soiled linen, equipment and instruments per protocol, maintaining sterile asepsis, changing and securing dressings, maintaining isolation technique
  • Promoting Personal Safety: utilizing PPE appropriately, keeping hallways clear of furniture/equipment, everything on one side
  • Provides Daily Inventory Maintenance: maintaining support areas (kitchen, nurses station, utility rooms) clean/stocked, restocking equipment in patient rooms, accountable for wheelchairs, thermometers, pulse oximeters, glucometers and other pertinent equipment
  • Completes appropriate work forms for maintenance and clinical engineering service, equipment work orders, including removing from service
  • Provides direct patient care that demonstrates our mission and values
  • Performs special procedures per policy
  • Demonstrates a practical problem-solving approach to patient moving and handling issues
  • Promotes Patient Wellness: performs direct patient care that significantly impacts patient satisfaction
  • Assists with nutrition management, patient mobility, elimination procedures, and communication of intake and output

Qualifications

  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA); Licensed Emergency Medical Technician (L-EMT) - Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)
  • Education: H.S. Diploma/GED

Skills

Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing, performs and documents selected diagnostic tests, performs and documents special procedures, promotes patient and staff safety through appropriate use of lift equipment, demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of all equipment necessary to perform job functions, and promotes patient wellness.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $17.89 per hour - $28.98 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
