About the Role
Responsible for oversight and assistance with inspection procedures in assigned areas according to plant-established procedures and product specifications.
Responsibilities
- Ensures accurate inspection and reporting of required information.
- Performs inspection procedures at frequencies identified in programs, procedures, and specifications.
- Conducts routine inspections of the environment and facility to ensure regulatory requirements and HACCP, GMP, SSOP procedures are met.
- Reports information and ensures product that fails to meet expectations or program requirements is retained, with appropriate personnel notified.
- Performs simple computer data entry.
- Demonstrates knowledge of inspection requirements and customer expectations.
- Assists new employees in learning the requirements of the position.
- Organizes and maintains shift HACCP records, verifies HACCP observations as required in the HACCP Plan, and ensures all elements of the HACCP Plan are reviewed during the shift.
- Conducts pre-shipment review of records prior to shipment of any product and reviews GMPs and sanitation standard operating procedures produced during the shift.
- Prepares and presents HACCP training to appropriate personnel and files all QA and HACCP documents.
- Audits all HACCP documentation on a regular basis.
- Identifies issues and problems associated with failure to meet customer expectations or program requirements.
- Makes critical decisions affecting the production process and plant functions.
- Understands all product parameters specified in product specifications and identifies non-conforming product.
- Maintains open communication with facility personnel on quality issues and topics.
- Reports factual information to management on quality, food safety, or customer issues.
- Communicates requirements of specifications, procedures, and regulatory standards to new department members and facility personnel.
- Prepares and maintains written documentation to ensure effective communication of all job tasks completed.
- Stays updated on the HACCP plan, Hazard Analysis, Flow Charts, SSOP plan, and other related food safety programs.
- Performs regular reviews of food safety programs and records.
- Conducts direct observations of food safety-related actions and quality programs at a regular frequency.
- Ensures compliance with USDA and company goals.
- Helps set and encourage new goals while improving morale within the department.
- Participates in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Attends team meetings and fosters strong cohesiveness on major issues.
- Identifies areas lacking cohesiveness and works to resolve issues.
- Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems and understands the role in supporting these systems.
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Requirements
- Basic computer knowledge (Excel, Word, and file management).
- One to three months of related experience or training preferred; poultry or food processing experience is a plus.
- GED or High School Diploma required.
- Must pass company-issued QA job entry exam.
- Must exhibit good reading, writing, and mathematical skills at a 12th-grade level.
- Company-issued HACCP certification must be acquired within one year of hire.

Work Environment
- Regularly required to stand, reach, and move about the facility; light to moderate physical effort required.
- Must be able to work on feet for an entire shift.
- Environment is cold, wet, noisy, and dusty; may involve exposure to breader or similar particles.
- May need to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds.
- Daily activities include sitting, standing, walking, and bending.
- Inside work around loud equipment and machinery; exposure to drains, footbaths, hoses, extreme heat and cold, wet/humid conditions, dust, gas, fumes, chemicals, and biohazards.
- May require working at heights (5 feet or more).
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Standard waterproof gloves and sleeves.
- Hearing protection.
- Slip-resistant footwear.
- Lockout/tagout equipment.
Travel
Minimal local travel to other work sites.
