H2 Commissioning Specialist- East Coast

Status: Non-exempt (hourly) | Location: Remote in the US

About the Role

This position is responsible for commissioning, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Plug Power products, including hydrogen storage infrastructure, electrolyzers, and stationary equipment at various customer sites. This is a heavy travel role (up to 100%) requiring excellent mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial hydrogen systems. The role also requires on-call availability to respond to urgent customer needs, ensuring around-the-clock hydrogen production. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively across cross-functional departments, help improve electrolyzer system designs, and resolve field-based defects. This role is critical for interfacing with customer stakeholders and enhancing Plug Power’s reputation as a leader in hydrogen fuel cell solutions.

Responsibilities

• Travel as needed to customer sites to perform inspection, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning of Plug Power products, including hydrogen storage infrastructure, electrolyzers, and stationary equipment.
• Execute and lead high-level service repair projects on existing hydrogen infrastructure, including specialized procedures such as liquid tank repairs and vacuum jacket line repairs.
• Provide training to first responders, customers, and other Plug service personnel on troubleshooting, maintenance, and service of hydrogen infrastructure.
• Support the commissioning and ongoing maintenance of industrial hydrogen infrastructure, including:
  • Interpreting electrical wiring schematics
  • Conducting point-to-point functionality testing
  • Pressure testing of piping systems per ASME standards
  • Testing and troubleshooting program issues with engineering assistance
  • Inspecting process piping systems (pressure ratings, fittings, etc.)
• Provide documented results from system testing and commissioning at the completion of each project.
• Create, track, and close out project task lists.
• Demonstrate knowledge of environmental impact on equipment function and performance.
• Safely operate and control combustibles.
• Diagnose system problems and troubleshoot solutions.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and P&IDs.
• Interact professionally and effectively with customers and external vendors.
• Operate independently with minimal supervision while achieving high-quality results.
• Adapt to changing requirements and meet project commitments without sacrificing workmanship or quality.
• Share ideas for process improvements and cost-saving measures with the project team and management.
• Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical specifications.
• Maintain a focus on safety in all work facets and ensure relevant parties are educated on the safe operation of hydrogen equipment.
• Represent Plug Power professionally in all interactions.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Three (3) or more years of experience in construction, repair, or maintenance in an electrical, industrial, or mechanical field.
• Associate’s degree or vocational degree in engineering, electronics, pressurized systems, or a related field preferred. In lieu of a degree, 2 additional years of relevant experience may be considered.
• Ability to travel up to 100% as needed to carry out duties.

Pay

$27.50 - $40.00 per hour. Base salary is determined by factors including education, experience, skills, and geography.
