Guidance Counselor - Bates Middle

Location: Bates Middle School

Reports to: Building Principal

Term: 205 days

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Master’s degree
• Valid South Carolina Educator Certification in Secondary School Counseling

Responsibilities

• Works with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom
• Guides students in the decision-making processes concerning academics and personal/social development
• Helps students evaluate their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personal characteristics for educational planning
• Consults with outside resources/agencies to maximize and coordinate the use of available services
• Consults with parents regarding their children, family counseling on school-related issues, and meetings for special purposes
• Provides services and expertise to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the community
• Assists students in developing self-confidence and a positive self-concept
• Assists students in strengthening interpersonal skills
• Assists students in analyzing personal learning styles and improving individual study skills
• Schedules, attends, and presents at placement meetings
• Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary
• Performs all other related duties as required

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation.
