About the role
NEAAAT is a highly innovative regional public school that inspires and prepares all students with the STEM-related skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to meet future challenges in the global workforce and their communities. Our instructional methods are centered on hands-on, project and problem based instruction thoughtfully designed to challenge students and prepare them for the real world of work.
Responsibilities
- Counseling
- Facilitates the design and implementation of a comprehensive system of student supports, both academic and affective
- Provides individual and group counseling and crisis management that meet the needs of the whole child
- Collaborates with school faculty, university personnel, and other professionals to identify, define, and meet students’ college and career planning and placement needs, goals, and objectives
- Develops and facilitates effective parent education workshops that focus on career readiness, academic success and preventive and responsive services
- Schedules students such that they are supported to gradually transition to increasing levels of independence in postsecondary coursework appropriate to their skill levels and career and academic goals
- Curriculum
- Provides classroom guidance that promotes soft skills, preventive and responsive behaviors, academic excellence, and positive social skills
- Collaborates with instructional team to design student and master schedules
- Communicates with local education agencies to maintain the confidentiality of each student’s cumulative records
- Promotions
- Promotes and enhances the instructional program by leveraging home, school, and community partnerships to address barriers to learning and achievement
- Maintains effective relationships with the university and other post-secondary institutions, employers, community leaders and organizations for the purpose of collaboration, building resources and expanding program opportunities for eligible students
- Other
- Coordinates a variety of events and programs (e.g. classroom presentations, college and career fairs, campus visits, field trips, etc.)
- Oversees all internal communications and processes pertaining to external driver’s education program opportunities
- Demonstrates personal commitment to professional growth through facilitating and participation in professional learning activities
- Compiles and maintains accurate PowerSchool reports (e.g. transcripts, student academic records, and other student records)
Qualifications
- Understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success
- Familiarity with current trends and leading innovations in education
- Ability to work effectively in a collegial, team-centered environment
- Intrinsically motivated and dedicated to continuous professional and personal growth
- Able to effectively engage parents and community in the learning process
- Excellent organizational skills and communication skills, both written and oral
- Understands the critical nature of building positive working relationships with students, parents and colleagues
- Effective communicator with students and their families through the college search, application and selection process; with faculty advisors and student advocates; and with peer professionals in college and university admissions offices
- Cultivates effective relationships with post-secondary institutions, employers, community leaders and organizations
Education, Training, Experience
- Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in counseling, social work or related field
- Minimum of three years experience as a middle or high school counselor preferred
Other
- Possess a deep commitment to serve the needs of students and families who are first generation college goers and those typically underrepresented in postsecondary education and STEM fields
- Serves as a brand ambassador for the school and, in doing so, models a personal commitment to excellence and strong adherence to the school’s core values through verbal/written communications, behaviors and actions.
