About the role
Tennessee School Counselor Certification is required. Residents of specified states may also apply. Must obtain a Tennessee Teaching License and attend in-person PDs, testing, and school events.
Responsibilities
- Helps all students plan for postsecondary options, manage emotions, and set academic goals.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive school counseling program focusing on academic success, social and emotional development, and career readiness.
- Collaborates with teaching staff to create a four-year graduation plan and audit student schedules.
- Assists students in course placement and recommends advanced placement opportunities.
- Analyzes student data to develop intervention action plans and provides short-term counseling as needed.
- Supports standardized testing, parent education, and staff development.
- Advocates for students at individual education plan meetings and other meetings.
- Works collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure equitable access and opportunities for all students.
- May travel up to 20% of the time for professional development, student testing, and other school events.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement
- Must obtain a Tennessee School Counselor License
- Master's degree in school counseling preferred
- Experience with distance learning and state career planning systems preferred
- Experience in a charter school environment preferred
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, web-based search engines, and database systems
- Flexible schedule; ability to travel as needed
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a professional home office
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and mandated reporting
