Guest Special Education Teaching Assistant
Effective 8/14/26: Hourly rate of $16.84 per hour for 6.5-hour full days.
About the role
District 200 is seeking Substitute Special Education Aides for the classroom. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, you will assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs and at-risk students. This is an on-call, as-needed position to temporarily replace a paraprofessional aide. Substitutes are expected to be available to work on a daily, consistent, and reliable basis.
If selected, candidates must undergo a physical examination and successfully pass a criminal background check.
Requirements
- Ability and willingness to work at least 3 days per week
- Experience working with special needs children desired
Qualifications
The State of Illinois requires Special Education Teaching Assistants to have one of the following:
- Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Current Illinois Substitute Teaching License
- Current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator
- Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
- 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution
- High school diploma or equivalent + 480 or higher on the ETS Parapro test
- High school diploma or equivalent + 4 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents
- Current Illinois Short-Term Approval (STA) - Paraprofessional:
- Minimum age: 19 years old
- Application in ELIS ($50 application fee)
- Proof of high school graduation (copy of diploma, transcript showing graduation date, GED, etc.)
