About the role

The Hot Section Engineering Mechanical Design team is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer, preferably with turbomachinery experience. The mechanical designer will work with other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) including project, structures, durability, aero-thermal, and product definition. The role involves interfacing with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs and departments such as Customer Technical Support, Global Services Engineering, and Product Safety, Certification and Validation & Development Operations. The candidate may work on commercial or military programs, with tasks varying by program phase, including clean sheet design, delivering development hardware to test engines, facilitating production hardware delivery, processing engineering changes, and supporting fielded engines.

Responsibilities

  • Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution while ensuring engineering excellence, with some supervisor oversight.
  • Review and approval of product definition data (prints and models).
  • Generate development hardware design solutions that meet test engine objectives and facilitate timely delivery of development hardware.
  • Work with Operations to address production issues and evaluate hardware nonconformances to ensure timely delivery of production hardware.
  • Process technically sound engineering changes within program schedule that meet performance metrics such as cost, weight, and part life.
  • Collaborate with Customer Technical Support (CTS) to respond to customer questions, review deteriorated hardware, and update engine maintenance manual limits.
  • Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools to continuously improve the design process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • 10 years of engineering experience or 7 years with an advanced degree.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative.
  • Experience with MS Office products.
  • Turbomachinery experience.
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines.

Pay

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Schedule

This role is onsite. Employees in onsite roles work primarily at the assigned site, and commuting to the site is the employee’s personal responsibility. Candidates may be asked to attend select interview steps in-person at one of our office locations.
