Lead a team of 5–8 Software Engineers, overseeing daily work, technical growth, and quality of software deliverables for integrated building-automation and energy-management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise, assign tasks, and manage the day-to-day activities of a team of approximately 5–8 Software Engineers.
  • Review, quality-check, and approve software work products: controls databases, graphics, programming, integrations, sequences of operation, documentation, commissioning support materials, and system backups.
  • Provide technical direction for specialized software required for complete integrated building automation systems and energy management solutions.
  • Ensure software work aligns with project specifications, design intent, applicable standards, customer requirements, and company quality expectations.
  • Coach, teach, and mentor engineers through regular feedback, technical training, project reviews, and hands-on support.
  • Develop new engineers by creating learning plans, assigning appropriate work, and tracking progress.
  • Support Level I and Level II Software Engineers by monitoring progress and resolving technical questions or issues.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex programming, graphics, integration, networking, commissioning, or operational issues.
  • Monitor project schedules, engineering deliverables, and resource availability; communicate risks or constraints to management.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Design Specialists, Operations Managers, field technicians, commissioning teams, service teams, and sales teams to support project phases from estimating through closeout.
  • Support installation and startup personnel with software adjustments during static and dynamic commissioning.
  • Provide on-site technical support to other contractors to resolve coordination or operating issues.
  • Promote consistency in software engineering standards, naming conventions, graphics standards, documentation, and project turnover requirements.
  • Verify proper backups, as-builts, facility performance software, and project documentation before transitioning from Operations to Service.
  • Participate in customer or internal meetings when technical leadership or supervisory input is required.
  • Complete and review timesheets, project updates, service work orders, and other required paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Identify recurring technical or quality issues and recommend training, process improvements, or corrective actions.
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, performance feedback, and development planning for Software Engineers.
  • Perform supervisory duties: planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent work experience as determined by local management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related software engineering, building automation, controls programming, systems integration, or HVAC controls experience.
  • Ability to work independently and lead others to complete work accurately, safely, and on schedule.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC system operations and mechanical/electrical systems within facilities.
  • Deep understanding of DDC or special systems that control buildings, including programming, graphics, integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Understanding of computer operating systems, MS Office Suite, ACAD or similar software, networking concepts, and common controls software tools.
  • Experience configuring, debugging, and troubleshooting computer, networking, programming, and building automation system issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret project specifications, sequences of operation, mechanical drawings, electrical diagrams, and electronic control documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work with electronic equipment such as volt meters, amp meters, oscilloscopes, and similar troubleshooting tools.
  • Working understanding of AC power circuitry including breakers, multi-phase power, and circuits 120VAC and greater.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to give feedback, explain technical concepts, and communicate expectations.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple engineers, projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, mentor, and develop technical employees.
  • Strong awareness of company culture, customer expectations, and the industry environment.
  • Ability to understand and professionally address the issues and perceptions of others to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Prior technical leadership, training, mentoring, project coordination, or supervisory experience.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, climb, walk, sit, push, pull, squat, crawl, and stoop.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, and type on a keyboard; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; may be required to work at heights over 1.8 meters.
  • Use of power tools is required.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and job sites; occasional travel to job site locations.
  • Work in typical office environments and on construction sites with moderate noise levels.
  • May require confined space entry or working at heights.

Pay

$125,000–175,000 (DOE)

Schedule

Monday–Friday; overtime and on-call as necessary.
