Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers.
- Recommend measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
- Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
- Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, and maintenance to detect production problems.
- Hire, train, evaluate, and discharge staff, and resolve personal grievances.
- Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records.
- Participate in the training, developing, and evaluating of hourly team members.
- Participate in the development of highly effective teams.
- Lead Global Manufacturing Systems processes and serve as a resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas.
- Meet or exceed production cost schedule and maintain quality requirements.
- Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals, and leverage resources to solve quality issues.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, and management.
- Understand and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between the company and the union workers.
- Implement and follow systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.
- Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety, and housekeeping.
- Motivate, train, and develop employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods. Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training).
- Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.
- Coach, teach, counsel, and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.
Requirements
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
