Job Summary
To supervise and oversee campus grounds maintenance activities. To plant, cultivate, and maintain lawns, plants, trees and shrubs. To maintain the beautification of the UMMC campus.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
- Valid Driver's License required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of sprinkler and irrigation systems
- Knowledge of applicable safety procedures
- Skills in operating light equipment, including backhoe, forklift, tractors, ditch witch, and scissor lift
- Ability to withstand heights of 35 feet
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to withstand exposure to external weather conditions and airborne particles, and to work with or around moving mechanical parts and chemicals
- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work
Responsibilities
- Plans and supervises the removal of leaves, grass, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from the grounds
- Participates and assists in planning the cultivation, pruning, spraying, and planting of grass, shrubs, and trees
- Coincides equipment operations and maintains control over tools, equipment, and supplies
- Aids in the removal and storage of radioactive waste under the supervision of a safety officer
- Maintains records and completes applicable reports
- Utilizes pressure washer to maintain cleanliness of buildings, sidewalks, trash compactor rooms and other surfaces
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold
- Frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment
- Occasional exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours
- Occasional travelling to offsite locations
- Occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature
- Occasional work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality
- Occasional bending
