About the role
The Grounds Worker maintains the campus grounds, ensuring they are clean, safe, and welcoming for all users.
Responsibilities
- Perform lawn maintenance tasks including mowing, weed eating, edging, trimming, and blowing.
- Assist with seasonal grounds projects such as sod installation, mulching, planting, drainage projects, bed weeding, campus-wide clean-up, and turf winterization.
- Maintain a professional and safe work environment in accordance with NWCC policies and procedures.
- Participate in daily crew and safety meetings.
- Assist with campus response during inclement weather events, including times when the campus may be closed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Grounds.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; must be able to walk, stand, bend, squat, and sit for extended periods.
- Experience and working knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment such as weed eaters, blowers, and general lawn clean-up tools preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Work is primarily performed outdoors year-round in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Frequent physical activity including walking long distances, standing for extended periods, bending, squatting, digging, lifting, and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
- Regular use of power tools and lawn maintenance equipment.
- May be required to respond to emergencies or weather-related events outside of normal working hours.
- May be required to assist with lawn care at other college locations.
- May be required to work extended hours as needed.
