The Department of Facilities & Administrative Services provides a broad array of services to the campus community, including Access Control, Automotive, Building, Energy & Central Utilities, Facilities Operations, Grounds & Landscape Maintenance, Mailing & Receiving, Occupational Safety and Environmental Services, and Risk Management.
About the role
Under the direction of the Head Grounds Worker, the Grounds Worker performs varied maintenance tasks to maintain institutional grounds.
Responsibilities
- Prepare soil, seeds, weeds, waters, cuts, and trims lawns
- Spray, prune, and trim shrubs; plant, transplant, and thin shrubs
- Remove dirt, rubbish, snow, leaves, and other refuse
- Maintain roads, lawns, sheds, benches, and parking areas
- Operate and maintain equipment such as tractors, grass cutters, scythes, hoes, rakes, sprinklers, shears, spraying devices, and seeders
- Report unfamiliar incidents or conditions on the grounds and take steps to ensure safe, orderly conditions
- Conduct snow removal, ice control, and respond to other emergency situations as required, day or night
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Knowledge of methods used to plan, lay out, and perform lawn and grounds maintenance work
- Ability to properly use and maintain equipment, materials, tools, and supplies
- Ability to perform tasks related to the propagation of trees, shrubbery, and perennial plants, including directing pruning, weeding, mowing, and trimming
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Must occasionally lift and move up to 60 pounds
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of background check, reference checks, and verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States (Form I-9)
- New Jersey residency required within one year of employment (faculty exempt)
Pay
Internal salary range (for current NJ state employees with classified status): $40,321.62 - $57,948.52 (Range 10).
External salary range (for non-NJ state employees): $40,321.62 - $45,609.69 (Range 10, Steps 1-4).
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
