Grounds Worker

About the Role

Serve the campus community in the capacity determined by the Director of Grounds and Landscaping. Adhere to safety regulations and standards outlined in the IWU safety policy and comply with processes and procedures established by Facilities management and Indiana Wesleyan University administration.

Responsibilities

• Snow Removal
• Campus Lawn Care
• Campus Landscaping
• Campus Waste Disposal/Recycling
• General Grounds Care and Facilities Maintenance
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Perform heavy manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting heavy objects up to 75 lbs
• Attentive to detail, a self-starter, and ability to work without close supervision
• Excellent communication skills; discerning and tactful
• Willingness to serve in any capacity determined by Grounds Department leadership
• Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the general public
• May be required to work overtime as directed by supervision
• Supervise and direct student worker pool as necessary

Requirements

All employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

• High School Diploma
• Two (2) years of relative experience in a grounds/maintenance related field
• Valid driver’s license

Skills

• Ability to operate equipment such as hand and power mowers, front-end loaders, tractors, spraying equipment, and hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner
• Considerable knowledge of standard hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance activities
• Considerable knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and equipment related to grounds maintenance
