Groundman - Underground (Canoochee EMC)

About the role

The Underground Groundman is an entry-level position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This position involves working at various locations and may require occasional travel to another state based on customer demands.

Responsibilities

• Set up pad mount transformers.
• Maintain safety protocols around energized high voltage systems.
• Inspect and maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Perform rigorous physical labor and assist with bucket rescue/escape.
• Install and remove service, check voltage on transformers, and install single phase transformers.
• Identify and work with different types of materials used in line work, and understand basic rigging and knot tying.
• Work in underground trenches and manholes, and understand excavation and shoring requirements.
• Understand and apply minimum approach distance, and understand and use Kellum grips.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and inspect it before use.
• Work in various locations, including outside in inclement weather, and work extended hours as needed.

Requirements

• No prior experience necessary.
• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 60 days of employment.
• Able to work in various locations, including outside in inclement weather.
• Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
• Able to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Able to work at heights and/or confined spaces.
• Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
• Familiar with induced voltage and understand its implications.
• Able to perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Able to follow company safety rules and all other company policies.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of materials used in line work.
• Understanding of basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying.
• Ability to receive and follow directions.
• Basic understanding of equipment setup and grounding.
• Ability to work at heights and/or confined spaces.
• Knowledge of minimum approach distance.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions.
• Willingness to work overtime and over the weekend as required.
• Willingness to work in remote locations.
• Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills
