About the role

The Underground Groundman is an entry-level position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role requires frequent travel to various locations and may involve working in remote or challenging environments.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain pad mount transformers.
  • Work safely around energized high voltage systems.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Operate company radio and understand basic rigging and knot tying.
  • Use and maintain hand tools.
  • Receive and follow directions.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
  • Understand induced voltage and basic concepts of equipment setup and grounding.
  • Work at heights and confined spaces.
  • Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Install and remove service connections.
  • Work in underground trenches and manholes.
  • Identify different types of materials used in line work.
  • Work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Willing to work overtime and flexible hours.

Requirements

  • No prior experience necessary.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of employment.
  • A Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud, and the position is performed in outside weather conditions.
