Groundman - Underground (Walton EMC)
About the Role
The Groundman position is your first step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation's Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems, reporting to the Foreman.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
- Assist in installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
- Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
- Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
- Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
- Inspect rubber goods and Personal Proteive Equipment (PPE).
- Perform rigorous physical labor.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

- Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
While performing the responsibilities of this job, you may be exposed to:
- Fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
- A variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites, including heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
- Loud noise levels in the work environment and job sites.
