Responsibilities

  • Aid the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training/scheduling associates.
  • Respond appropriately to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents, and questions.
  • Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in all interactions.
  • Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage ordering and ensure proper accounting of products.
  • Price and display merchandise effectively, maintain signage, product rotation, and cleanliness.
  • Engage in effective merchandising techniques, customer services, and promotional activities.
  • Provide input on department budgets, goals, and results, and communicate with associates and customers.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities according to company policies and standards.
  • Ensure floors, shelves, and grocery areas are clean and meet sanitary standards.
  • Communicate and interact positively with associates and customers.
  • Manage people and organize workloads as directed.

Qualifications

  • Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to make quick, intelligent decisions and handle stressful situations calmly.
  • Knowledge of department operations including managing people, merchandising, computer-assisted ordering, inventory management, customer services, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.
  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including OSHA compliance.
  • Ability to operate power machinery and use various job tools.
  • Previous grocery retail experience and/or backup manager experience preferred.
  • Past work record reflecting dependability and integrity.
