Responsibilities
- Aid the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training/scheduling associates.
- Respond appropriately to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents, and questions.
- Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in all interactions.
- Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage ordering and ensure proper accounting of products.
- Price and display merchandise effectively, maintaining proper signage, product rotation, freshness, quantity, quality, and space allocation.
- Engage in and counsel associates on merchandising techniques, customer services, product presentation, and promotional activities.
- Provide input on department budgets, goals, and results, and communicate with associates and customers to maintain a positive impression.
- Maintain equipment and facilities according to company policies and procedures, ensuring floors, shelves, and grocery areas are clean and up to sanitary standards.
- Manage and organize workloads, and demonstrate the ability to implement company initiatives and process improvements.
Qualifications
- Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to make quick, intelligent decisions and handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- Understanding of department operations including managing people, merchandising, computer-assisted ordering, inventory management, shrink control, customer services, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including OSHA compliance.
- Ability to operate various job tools and machinery, such as power jacks, box cutters, label guns, balers, compactors, etc.
- Previous grocery retail experience and/or backup manager experience preferred.
- Past work record reflecting dependability and integrity.
