Responsibilities

  • Aid the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training/scheduling associates.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to customer and associate comments, complaints, and requests.
  • Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage merchandise and supplies, ensuring accurate accounting.
  • Price and display merchandise effectively, maintaining proper signage and hygiene.
  • Engage in and counsel associates on merchandising, customer service, and promotional activities.
  • Provide feedback on departmental budgets, goals, and performance to the Department Manager.
  • Communicate and interact positively with associates and customers.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities according to company policies and ensure cleanliness.
  • Manage workload and organize tasks as directed.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Understanding of department operations, including managing people, merchandising, computer-assisted ordering, inventory management, customer services, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including OSHA compliance.
  • Ability to operate various job tools and machinery.
  • Previous grocery retail experience and/or backup manager experience preferred.
  • A dependable and trustworthy past work record.
