Responsibilities
- Aid the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training/scheduling associates.
- Respond promptly and courteously to customer and associate comments, complaints, and requests.
- Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage merchandise and supplies, ensuring accurate accounting.
- Price and display merchandise effectively, maintaining proper signage and hygiene.
- Engage in and counsel associates on merchandising, customer service, and promotional activities.
- Provide feedback on departmental budgets, goals, and performance to the Department Manager.
- Communicate and interact positively with associates and customers.
- Maintain equipment and facilities according to company policies and ensure cleanliness.
- Manage workload and organize tasks as directed.
Qualifications
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- Understanding of department operations, including managing people, merchandising, computer-assisted ordering, inventory management, customer services, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including OSHA compliance.
- Ability to operate various job tools and machinery.
- Previous grocery retail experience and/or backup manager experience preferred.
- A dependable and trustworthy past work record.
