Responsibilities

  • Aid the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training/scheduling associates.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to customer and associate comments, complaints, requests, and questions.
  • Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage merchandise and supplies, and ensure accurate inventory records.
  • Direct others in pricing and displaying merchandise, maintaining proper signage and product rotation.
  • Engage associates in merchandising techniques, customer services, and promotional activities.
  • Provide feedback on departmental budgets, goals, and performance to the Department Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with associates and customers to maintain a positive store image.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities according to company policies and standards.
  • Ensure floors, shelves, and grocery areas are clean and meet sanitary standards.
  • Implement and promote company initiatives and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Knowledge of department operations, including managing people, merchandising, computer-assisted ordering, inventory management, customer services, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.
  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including OSHA compliance.
  • Ability to operate power machinery and use various job tools.
  • Previous grocery retail experience and/or backup manager experience preferred.
  • A dependable and trustworthy work history.
