About the role
The Grants Accountant I/II position is responsible for administering assigned awards, producing customized reports, and maintaining project files. The role involves award set up, management, and closeout, as well as monitoring compliance with university, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Administers assigned awards, including award set up, management, and closeout
- Produces customized reports and queries to verify all charges are appropriate
- Updates revenue status for each project
- Reconciles the three ledger groups
- Maintains a project file with all associated backup documentation
- Communicates with PIs, Departmental representatives, sponsor representatives, and others to resolve problems, communicate changes, and seek or provide guidance
- Makes day-to-day decisions regarding the assigned sponsored project portfolio
- Makes awards, releases budgets, ensures compliance with regulations, and prepares invoices and reports
- Performs A/R audit, closes budgets, refunds sponsors, transfers residual funds, and funds subprojects as necessary
- Reviews and approves budget and expenditure transfers
- Participates in trainings and meetings
- Communicates relevant information to departments and provides instruction and guidance concerning proper procedures
- Performs collections activities for past due debts
Requirements
- Level I: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Level II: Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in contract and grant accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualifications
- Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be customer service oriented
- Ability to establish, build, and maintain working relationships with campus and funding agency representatives
- Knowledge of electronic research administration software preferred
- Function under highly stressful circumstances
