Grants Accountant I/II
About the role
The Grants Accountant I/II position is responsible for administering assigned awards, managing and closing out contracts and grants. The role involves award set up, management, reconciliation of three ledger groups, and maintaining project files. It also includes producing customized reports and queries, consulting with departments, monitoring awards for compliance, interpreting and reviewing award documents, and performing various financial tasks such as generating invoices, preparing reports, and closing budgets.
Responsibilities
- Administer assigned awards, manage and close out contracts and grants
- Set up and modify existing awards, interpret and review award documents
- Generate customized reports and queries, reconcile three ledger groups
- Maintain project files, provide financial information to other departments
- Communicate with PIs, departmental representatives, sponsor representatives, and others
- Monitor awards for compliance with university, state, and federal rules and regulations
- Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal government regulations, circulars, and sponsor-specific instructions
- Prepare and submit invoices and reports, process budget transfers, fund subprojects as necessary
- Perform A/R audit, close budget, refund sponsor if necessary, transfer residual funds, and inform departments of open encumbrances
- Communicate with DSP, sponsor, or department to request clarification, additional information, or alterations
- Participate in trainings and meetings, enhance area-specific knowledge, and actively participate in on-going communications
- Review OMB circulars and other federal regulations, communicate relevant information to departments, and provide instruction and guidance
- Perform collections activities, reconcile A/R and Billing status, and follow up on past due obligations
Requirements
- Level I: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other appropriate area; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Level II: Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in contract and grant accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and customer service orientation
- Ability to establish, build, and maintain working relationships with campus and funding agency representatives
- Function under highly stressful circumstances
