About the role
The Grant Writer Intern will support the Latino Diabetes Association in researching, developing, and drafting grant proposals that align with the organization’s mission and funding priorities.
Responsibilities
- Identify potential funding opportunities
- Gather program data and stories from staff
- Draft clear and compelling narratives
- Affiliate with budgets and attachments for grant submissions
- Maintain a grants calendar
- Track deadlines
- Support preparation of reports to funders
Requirements
- Strong writing and editing abilities
- Capacity to produce clear, concise, and persuasive content tailored to funder requirements
- Research skills to identify grant opportunities and gather relevant data, statistics, and program information from internal and external sources
- Organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple deadlines, maintain grant records, and support timely submissions
- Basic familiarity with nonprofit work, fundraising, or program evaluation; interest in public health, community health, or social services is highly beneficial
- Ability to collaborate respectfully with staff, volunteers, and community partners, and to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment in Montebello, CA, with reliable access to a computer and internet for remote tasks
- Relevant coursework or experience in fields such as English, Communications, Public Health, Social Sciences, or Nonprofit Management is preferred
- Knowledge of Latino communities and/or diabetes-related issues is a plus; bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly valued but not required.
