Grain Accounting and Merchandising Assistant
Primary Function
The purpose of this position is to equip a highly motivated individual with comprehensive knowledge across the Grain division, enabling them to contribute effectively to various departments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Learn disciplines from the following departments within the Grain division:
Accounting: Understand basic accounting software (AGRIS), review contracts, manage accounts receivable, enter/edit/amend contracts, and review customer accounts.
Mercanting/Origination: Gain familiarity with all grain contracts, communicate with producers and end-users, manage physical trading positions, perform trade arbitrage, and handle intercompany trades.
Risk Management: Acquire knowledge of risk management functions, operate the hedge desk, reconcile daily HPR, and conduct audits/risk mitigation procedures.
Logistics: Understand shipping/receiving methods, calculate transportation rates, communicate with shippers/receivers, review freight invoices, and create/shell shipping schedules.
Grain Grading: Learn grading procedures for corn/soybeans/wheat, operate scales, perform purity/toxin tests, organize scale tickets/samples, and communicate quality with external operations.
Outside Operations: Gain insight into elevator operations, quality management, safety protocols, repairs/maintenance, inventory management, and PLC operations.
Additional Responsibilities:
Aid colleagues with projects related to investments, acquisitions, projections, and strategic planning.
Contribute to data analytics for senior management, assisting with business decisions.
Maintain accurate and organized grain documentation.
Follow The DeLong Company grain policies.
Required Skill/Knowledge
1 year agricultural business experience or farming background.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of accounting software (AGRIS).
Strong communication skills.
Organizational skills.
Ability to accept responsibility and be vocal within the organization.
Preferred Skills/ Knowledge
1+ year experience in finance, accounting, business agriculture, or economics.
Education Level / Required Certification
4-year college degree or equivalent industry experience.
Finance.

The ability to understand, research, and resolve problems related to the responsibilities of this position. Must be able to brainstorm, communicate, and collaborate with others to find the best solutions.

Internal: Members of all grain division staff.
External: Producers, end-users, brokers, industry professionals, auditors.
Supervisory Responsibility/ Authority to
Total number of exempt and non-exempt reports: 1.
Authority to make decisions: Major duties & responsibilities with oversight of Head of Merchandising, Vice President of Grain, and Accounting Staff.
Promotional Opportunities: Level 2 Grain Division Managerial Trainee.
