About the role

Rogers Group, Inc., headquartered in Nashville, is seeking an experienced grading foreman for the North Alabama Operations area. Reporting directly to the Area Construction Manager, this position starts at $30/hr.

Responsibilities

  • Provide planning, supervision, and documentation for mass grading/finish grade operations.
  • Supervise and train personnel in setting grade, equipment operation, and other tasks involved in excavation/grading operations related to commercial grading operations.
  • Plan, supervise, and document grading activities and utility installations.
  • Oversee, coach, and model safety procedures and policies at all times.
  • Lead, coordinate, and assist with workforce planning, cost control, and the consistent application of SSC policies and procedures.
  • Supervise field employees in site, road, and subdivision construction, including excavation, filling, compaction, and material testing.
  • Coordinate with surveyors and engineers for field layout and utility installation.
  • Inspect work sites for sequencing, utility installation, and potential hazards.
  • Identify, verify, and report scheduling conflicts, needs, or deficiencies with other crews and subcontractors.
  • Communicate safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance and identify safety training needs.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and complete Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) as necessary.
  • Evaluate the competency and capability of employees and address issues/problems among crew members.
  • Supervise all company equipment and vehicles, ensuring adherence to maintenance procedures.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and collaborate with mechanics and vendors for solutions.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in grading operations.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • 3+ years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret grade stakes and drawings/specifications.
  • Experience working in noisy environments requiring hearing protection.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Able to provide valid I-9 documentation.
  • Drug-free status and a safe driving record.
  • Valid driver's license.
