Grade Foreman - Farmville, VA
About the role
The Grade Foreman is a field position responsible for organizing and leading a crew to safely and efficiently perform mass earthwork and excavating activities for highway and road construction/reconstruction projects. The Foreperson works under the general direction of the Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate construction work according to priorities and plans.
- Plan, organize, and lead a grading crew.
- Produce schedules and monitor crew attendance.
- Allocate general and daily responsibilities.
- Schedule aggregate material quantities and deliveries.
- Determine trucking needs and schedule trucks.
- Supervise and train workers and tradespeople.
- Ensure labor and other resources are adequate.
- Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met.
- Supervise the use of machinery and equipment.
- Monitor expenditure and ensure it remains within budget.
- Resolve problems as they arise.
- Report on progress to managers, engineers, and others.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a construction foreman.
- Diploma in a skilled trade (e.g., electrician, carpenter) is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with normal working hours of Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., including time for lunch. Hours may vary, and frequent overtime or weekend work may be required. Overnight stays may be necessary for out-of-town projects.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, though some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Supervisory Responsibility
Assign work to subordinates, establish deadlines, and modify work schedules as needed to meet project deadlines.
