Responsibilities
- Observe feeding and folding of material and gluing edges; inform gluer operator of any issues on the feeding or packing ends.
- Work with the Gluer Operator to monitor the feeding of product into the gluer machinery.
- Coordinate with the Gluer Operator to ensure correct jobs are staged at the front of the machine.
- Demonstrate teamwork and motivation on intensive and easier packing jobs.
- Match all collating marks that are being packed and pack all cards in the same direction.
- Understand line stop procedures.
- Show consistent improvement on speed, keep up with the line, and express interest in moving into a Packer Level II position.
- Familiarize self with the items being packed.
- Organize and sort products according to size, color, or other specifications.
- During ‘Setup’ Operation: Take direction from Gluer Operator and Gluer Level II to de-stage the last job by returning unnecessary packing supplies, emptying trash, and staging the next job by gathering needed packaging supplies.
- During ‘Run’ Operation: Take direction from Gluer Operator to check for correct card, count, carton, side, direction, and quality.
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning and lubricating the glue machinery with the gluer operator.
- Assist packers on the line to ensure they are keeping up and maintaining product quality.
- During “down time”: Work with the Gluer Operator, Gluer II, and material handler to ensure product is moved and the area is staged.
- Observe when the Gluer Operator makes adjustments to machine components based on widths, lengths, thickness of materials, and amounts of glue.
- Understand all folder/gluer line metrics and goals.
- Complete daily end-of-shift duties as assigned by the Gluer Operator and Gluer II.
- Transition to working as an individual packer without relying on a trainer.
- Correctly use required safety PPE: steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
