Geotechnical Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking a capable and motivated Texas-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with a strong background in geotechnics and ground engineering to strengthen and expand the capabilities of our Underground Group in Texas and the wider United States. This is a client-facing, delivery-focused role supporting the design and construction of complex transportation, rail, water and energy infrastructure projects.
Key Accountabilities
Design and Delivery Plan and manage geotechnical investigations, including fieldwork, laboratory testing, and data interpretation
Develop ground models, geotechnical parameters, and design assumptions
Deliver geotechnical analysis and design across all project stages, including preparation of calculations, reports and specifications
Identify and manage geotechnical risks to deliver safe, compliant, and constructible solutions
Cookordination geotechnical inputs within multidisciplinary design teams
Digital & Innovation Lead structured management of geotechnical data and interpretive datasets
Develop and maintain digital ground models
Improve delivery efficiency through automation (e.g., scripts, templates, dashboards)
Promote best practice in data governance and auditable workflows
Technical Development Provide technical guidance on complex geotechnical challenges
Contribute to proposals, bids, and work winning activities, including scope development, methodology, and technical review, as appropriate
Mentor junior engineers and support capability development
Contribute to continuous improvement and adoption of best practices across projects
Candidate Profile
Education & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
PE license in Texas (California PE or ability to obtain viewed favorably)
5 - 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience
Demonstrated experience delivering geotechnical design on infrastructure projects in the U.S.
Technical Capability Experience in the following areas: Foundation design (shallow and deep), Settlement, consolidation, and ground deformation analysis, Slope stability, seepage, and excavation support systems, Geotechnical investigation planning and laboratory data interpretation
Desirable Experience in design-build project environments
Interest in digital delivery and data-driven workflows
Professional Skills
Clear and concise technical writing and reporting
Effective communication in client-facing environments
Proven ability to deliver high-quality work within schedule and budget
Technical & Software Skills
Experience with geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience, LPILE or similar)
Familiarity with geotechnical data platforms (e.g., OpenGround, gINT)
Familiarity with 3D ground modelling software (Leapfrog Works)
Interest in digital delivery and data-driven workflows
Experience with Python or similar tools to automate geotechnical workflows and data processing
Familiarity with integrating ground data platforms with analysis and reporting tools
