Geotechnical Department Manager

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Geotechnical Engineering department, driving profitability and growth while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Oversee all phases of geotechnical projects, from engineering analysis and field exploration to laboratory services, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to best practices.
  • Manage department financials, including P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and revenue tracking to ensure sustainable growth.
  • Ensure that all projects meet safety standards, quality control procedures, and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Conduct senior-level reviews of proposals, reports, and technical documents to ensure project accuracy and maintain high client satisfaction.
  • Mentor and train both senior and junior staff, fostering professional growth and ensuring skill development within the team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients while actively participating in business development initiatives to secure new projects.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, resource allocation, and budgets to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Prepare written proposals for projects of varying sizes, aligning with client goals and expectations.
  • Stay current with industry advancements by participating in relevant organizations and leading technical training within the team.
  • Uphold safety standards and report any concerns promptly to management. Ensure full compliance with industry regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required (Georgia registration preferred).
  • 5-10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with a deep understanding of geotechnical principles and best practices.
  • Experience with GDOT (Georgia Department of Transportation) projects preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets, forecasts, and P&L.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client engagement, and securing new projects.
