About the role

WSP is currently seeking a Geologist for its Kentucky operations, based in Louisville and Lexington. The role involves projects with the Earth & Environment Team and working with a growing organization that addresses client objectives and solves challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with or lead site investigations, soil or groundwater remedial measures, asbestos/lead paint surveys and abatement activities, and hazardous or solid waste management.
  • Generate accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding field conditions and assess and advise on the short- and long-term risks to ecological and human health.
  • Ensure responsibilities are delivered and adhere to industry standards.
  • Work with members of the Earth and Environment Team to provide direction and support existing client relationships.
  • Serve as Technical Lead or Task Manager for current and future projects, setting strategic direction and overseeing project execution.
  • Independently manage and execute projects to meet compliance schedules.
  • Perform moderately complex technical tasks within a broad work-scope, and/or plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate project work for large work-scopes.
  • Prepare technical proposals and reports, in whole or in part, depending on the size and complexity of the document.
  • Demonstrate competency in a combination of areas including environmental compliance, field supervision, technical knowledge and task management.
  • Motivate, train and mentor subordinate staff assigned to his/her tasks or projects.
  • Manage and effectively communicate with subcontractors in the field.
  • Organize field work and assign tasks and provide guidance to staff specialists (Field Task Management).
  • Review contractor submittals including equipment, Work Plans, QA/QC plans and payment requests.
  • Oversee drilling activities (including DPT/Geoprobe, HSA and Sonic).
  • Oversee soil excavation, demolitions, and remediation system installations.
  • Prepare components of investigation, remedial and monitoring reports, including work summaries, data summaries, calculations, summary tables, figures, and report text.
  • Prepare technical evaluations and recommendations.
  • Point person for subcontractors and directs junior level staff overseeing field activities.
  • Travel to project sites as required; includes some overnight travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology or environmental science.
  • 5+ years’ experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to interact with regulatory agencies, stakeholders and clients and develop effective teamwork relationships.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to track compliance deadlines.
  • Show a high level of initiative and attention to detail.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including scoping and tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
  • 40-Hour OSHA (29 CFR 1910.120) Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.

Qualifications

  • Applicable Professional Licensure/Certification or ability to obtain in 6-12 months.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The position may entail approximately 70% office work and 30% field work on a variety of projects including industrial/commercial, state and federal sites involving environmental contamination.
