Genetic Counselor (Temporary 6-months, Benefitted)

About the Role

We are responsible for the overall health of our community’s pediatric population in our hospitals, clinics, and practices. The Genetic Counselor provides genetic counseling and risk assessment for patients and families at CHOC with an emphasis on family-centered care through expert practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership. This role participates as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, serves as a resource for medical, nursing, and ancillary team members, and community providers. Utilizes evidence-based clinical care and knowledge of genetic counseling and inborn errors. Engages in professional activities including lectures, publications, research, text review, or active participation in professional organizations.

This is a temporary, part-time position for approximately 6 months. The hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, and this position is eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities

• Provide genetic counseling and risk assessment for patients and families.
• Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Serve as a resource for medical, nursing, and ancillary team members and community providers.
• Engage in professional activities such as lectures, publications, research, and participation in professional organizations.
• Utilize evidence-based clinical care and knowledge of genetic counseling and inborn errors.

Requirements

• Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
• Licensed Genetic Counselor in California (required).
• Experience working with patients and families in a clinical setting (required).
• Three (3) years of experience in an ambulatory setting (preferred).
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).

Work Environment

This role operates in a medium- to high-energy environment with the following physical demands:

• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
• Push/pull +/- 150-200 lbs (e.g., patients on a bed or stretcher).
• Lateral transfer of 150-200 lbs (e.g., patients).
• Frequent bending, carrying objects, climbing, keyboard use/repetitive motion, pinching/fine motor activities, pushing/pulling, reaching (forward and overhead), sitting, squatting/kneeling/crawling, standing, talking or hearing, twisting, walking, and wrist position deviation.
• Constant lifting (67% or more) from floor to waist level and waist level and above.
• Frequent lifting (36-66%) from floor to waist level and waist level and above.

Sensory and environmental requirements include:

• Color discrimination, depth perception, far and near vision, hearing.
• Exposure to airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, dust particulate matter, extreme noise levels, extreme temperatures, radiation, and uneven surfaces or elevations.

Pay

Pay Range:

• Minimum: $41.47 per hour
• Midpoint: $54.95 per hour
• Maximum: $68.43 per hour

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, and position requirements.

Schedule

Part-time, temporary position for approximately 6 months.

• Days: Tuesday through Thursday
• Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
