Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.
- Evaluate surgical consultations and formulate treatment plans in collaboration with supervising surgeons.
- Manage preoperative, postoperative, and follow-up patient care.
- Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, radiologic, and diagnostic test results.
- Conduct daily inpatient rounds and coordinate patient management plans.
- Assess and manage acute and chronic surgical conditions.
- Surgical Assistance:
- Assist surgeons in the operating room during surgical procedures.
- Perform first-assist duties including tissue handling, suturing, retraction, hemostasis, and wound closure as credentialed.
- Participate in robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgical procedures as appropriate.
- Ensure proper surgical documentation and postoperative orders.
- Care Coordination:
- Collaborate with surgeons, hospitalists, specialists, nursing staff, case management, and ancillary services.
- Facilitate discharge planning and transitions of care.
- Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and postoperative care.
- Coordinate outpatient follow-up and continuity of care.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Complete operative notes, consultation notes, discharge summaries, and procedure documentation as required.
- Adhere to hospital, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Current state license as an Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- BLS upon hire and maintain current.
- Two years of experience as a nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
