About the Role

Hanwha Qcells USA Corp (Qcells USA), headquartered in Houston, TX, specializes in providing utility-scale modules, solar photovoltaic (PV), and battery energy storage systems (BESS) project development, along with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for solar and BESS projects nationwide. Qcells USA delivers comprehensive turnkey solutions encompassing the entire utility-scale project lifecycle. This position reports to the Field Operations Manager and is based in Ankeny, IA, with a hybrid schedule working from both home and the Ankeny office. The role requires up to 100% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead electrical superintendents and their craft throughout the duration of the project.
  • Assist in developing detailed CPM schedules for all installation activities and a schedule of values to aid the billing process.
  • Coordinate activities, schedule, material procurement, project logistics, and temporary facility plans with the project manager and field staff.
  • Review and approve materials/equipment for Civil construction and monitor installation and startup, resolving conflicts prior to starting work.
  • Prepare reports and communicate progress to Project Managers/Directors and project Owners during weekly meetings.
  • Review contract documents and suggest improvements as needed.
  • Supervise, develop, and mentor Civil Project Engineers.
  • Supervise, review, and coordinate submittals and shop drawings.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure effective communication and results.
  • Provide cost estimation, including site due diligence, project costs related to time, materials, and labor, and track actual costs.
  • Prepare cost reports regarding project status, estimated costs, revenues, and timeline.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience in Site Supervision.
  • Proven track record as a Superintendent on large projects with values above $20 million (Civil portions of contracts).
  • Thorough knowledge of Construction Code and mass grading experience.
  • General understanding of building codes, mechanical codes, electrical codes, and plumbing codes as they relate to civil construction.
  • Experience dealing with subcontracts and subcontractors.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience managing major projects, preferably in power stations, supply networks, or other utility-scale construction.
  • Minimum of 2 years of solar PV or wind power project experience (preferred).
  • Industrial relations knowledge for recognizing and resolving potential labor issues.
  • Knowledge of Company construction guides and manuals.
  • Construction safety awareness and comprehension.
  • Conflict Management Skills.
  • Multi-tasking ability (prioritize, organize, schedule work).
  • Problem-solving skills (identify, analyze, research, evaluate, resolve).
  • Communication skills and constructability knowledge within discipline and other disciplines (Structural, Electrical, HV electrical, SCADA, BESS, Estimating).
  • Conceptual planning ability and risk assessment/management.
  • Familiarity with cost code labor productivity systems, time reporting policies, and construction guides/standards.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office tools.
  • Extensive work experience in management and completion of large-scale projects, particularly solar HV & PV projects.
  • Appropriate leadership experience and demonstrated ability in managing projects: development, planning, installation, and execution.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; other language skills are a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Assertive, able to cope with pressure, and be a team player.
  • Ability to travel up to 100% of the time.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently remains standing and moving up to 90% of an 8-10 hour workday; if operating equipment, be able to enter and exit equipment up to 90% of the time.
  • Frequently bend, stand, stoop, and/or walk.
  • Frequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently communicate with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees and coworkers.
  • Frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and objects near and far.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend stairways to access office/equipment/trenches.
  • Travel up to 100% as needed.

Work Environment

  • Regular professional, construction site setting.
  • Noise level ranges from low to moderate (office trailer setting) or moderate to high (construction worksite).
  • Flexibility to work night shifts.

Pay

The salary range for this position is influenced by factors including internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties, and necessary experience. The listed range pertains to candidates working in Irvine, CA, and may differ for other locations. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, along with medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
