The hospital’s team of specialists covers a wide range of disciplines, including ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. KBRH is committed to medical excellence and compassionate care, making it a cornerstone of the community.

About the Role

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is recruiting a Canadian Royal College certified General Pathologist or a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist (AP/CP) for a three-person practice. The group handles approximately 8,500 surgical pathology cases annually. Responsibilities include:

  • General surgical pathology and cytology case sign-out
  • Clinical pathology case sign-out (e.g., peripheral blood smears, bone marrow biopsies)
  • Transfusion medicine and local laboratory oversight
  • Opportunity for medical directorship of rural area labs

Autopsies are not currently performed at this site. The ideal candidate will have recent clinical pathology experience, with strong skills in surgical pathology, laboratory diagnostics, transfusion medicine, and hematopathology. Comfort with independent practice in a small group environment is essential. Daily quality assurance videoconferences are conducted with other Interior Health pathologists to discuss interesting or difficult cases. Intramural or extramural consultation for challenging cases is readily available, including referrals to academic medical centers in Vancouver.

This position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with laboratory staff, clinicians, and administration. We welcome both new graduates and experienced pathologists to join our team in the West Kootenays, where outdoor adventures, arts, and culture thrive.
