The General Manager
The Key Responsibilities of this position.
- Total P&L Ownership (Strategic Results): Lead: Assume full accountability for the site’s financial performance. Translate complex operational data into long-term profitability strategies, managing fixed costs and capital expenditures. Support: Provide the "Executive Why" to the OM regarding budget constraints, helping them understand how labor spend directly impacts the site's viability.
- Barrier Removal (The Filter): Lead: Act as the primary shield for the leadership team. Own the resolution of high-level obstacles—such as vendor disputes, major equipment procurement, or corporate-level technical hurdles—that prevent AMs and OMs from focusing on their core duties. Support: Serve as the "Final Arbiter" for the OM when tactical barriers require a higher level of authority or financial approval to resolve.
- Strategic Vision (Planning & Alignment): Lead: Look 6–12 months ahead to identify facility needs, market trends, and growth opportunities. Ensure the site is prepared for volume shifts before they hit the floor. Support: Align with the COO and NALT on network-wide initiatives, ensuring the OM and AM have the context needed to implement changes smoothly.
- Culture & Talent Architecture (People Development): Lead: Champion an inclusive, high-performance team culture. Own the "Talent Bench" by identifying high-potential leaders and ensuring the "One Team" Leadership Agreement is the standard for all management. Support: Provide the final tier of mentorship for AMs and OMs, offering "Big Picture" career coaching and supporting the structured coaching paths designed by the OM.
- Operational Excellence (Safety & Organization): Lead: Ensure the facility maintains a permanent "Audit-Ready" status. Own the 5S standards and facility maintenance to protect the company brand and physical assets. Support: Back the AM’s immediate safety corrections on the floor, providing the resources (signage, floor tape, safety gear) required to maintain a world-class environment.
- Collaborative Leadership: Lead: Adhere strictly to the "One Team" Leadership Agreement. Lead the site’s strategic direction while maintaining a visible, encouraging presence that reinforces the values of the organization. Support: Actively support the tactical needs of the floor by ensuring the AM and OM are never "starved" for information or resources.
