General Maintenance Worker - Plumbing

Position Location: This position is located onsite in Annapolis Junction, MD.
About the Role
Under direction of the Facility Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker will provide the daily maintenance operations and activities for all assigned facilities. The incumbent receives and evaluates work orders and requests, investigates problems where appropriate, and completes the necessary repairs and maintenance of all plumbing systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintains various mechanical supply and drain lines, including clearing clogged lines, repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures, and conducting preventative maintenance on pumps, fixtures, water filters, water heaters, drains, and other plumbing appliances.
- Assists plumbers with both high and low-pressure steam appliances.
- Performs basic electrical wiring for water heaters, pumps, and various control devices.
- Plans and layouts work from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal and written instructions.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
- Plans, organizes work, and meets all deadlines.
- Coordinates with other trades personnel and warehouse personnel to identify proper materials, parts, assemblies, and requirements for requisitions.
- Responds to emergency site maintenance as required.
- Inspects and diagnoses problems to determine corrective repairs.
- Performs on-call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.
- Helps perform periodic stock inventories and prepares material requisitions for replacement items.
- Operates customer and company-owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
- Performs various lower classified duties such as file maintenance, workspace cleanup, and warehouse maintenance.
- Supports other department staff as needed or directed.
- Assists other trade groups in daily operations where required.
- Adheres to established company safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent GED.
- Two (2) years of experience in the plumbing and facilities maintenance trade.
- Possess and maintain or obtain within 6 months the Hepatitis B vaccination.
- Familiarity with basic mathematical functions.
- Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.
- Valid state driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman License.
- Computer background, Microsoft Office Suite.
- Voluntary participation for the Emergency Response Team that requires Respirator FIT Testing.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
Pay
$31.16 / hour
