Water Maintenance Worker

About the role

This position involves performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled repairs and maintenance work, operating a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, streets, City services and systems, and parks maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in planning, scheduling, and implementing construction, maintenance, and operation activities.
  • Inspects and/or repairs chlorine injection equipment, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems, and sewer systems.
  • Maintains records related to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc.
  • Determines locates through blue stake process for utility lines before excavation.
  • Responds to complaints about water issues and evaluates situations.
  • Mows and maintains parks and open space areas; mows lawns; weeds, maintains sprinkler systems; assists in repairing and installing sprinkler lines and heads.
  • Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of drinking fountains and restrooms.
  • Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs City Facilities as needed.
  • Performs minor unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance of open space structures.
  • Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools.
  • Operates tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment.
  • Performs construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
  • Services water supply, sewer lift, and other pumps.
  • Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience with good (1 to 3 years) experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Qualifications

  • Obtained ADEQ Water Distribution Certification level 1.
  • Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
  • Ability to operate some of the listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Successfully completed AZ DOC Inmate Training, AZ 811 (Blue Stake) training, Traffic Control and Flagger training, and Occupational and Hazards training.
