About the role
The Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis provides skilled nursing care in a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. The positions perform a variety of indoor and/or outdoor maintenance, cleaning, and laundry activities in a resident care setting.
Responsibilities
- Maintain building floors and hallways using machines or manual processes by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and vacuuming.
- Clean windows, walls, curtain dividers, and window treatments using appropriate cleaning agents and ladders.
- Clean and maintain rooms and furniture by dusting, moving, rearranging, and setting up or taking down tables and chairs.
- Clean restrooms by scrubbing floors, sinks, and stools; maintaining supplies of soap and paper products; and emptying wastebaskets and trash containers.
- Clean assigned state-maintained sidewalks by shoveling snow, applying sand and/or deicers, and removing ice, rubbish and other materials.
- Perform personal and regular laundry activities, including sorting and delivering residents' clothes.
- Operate, maintain, and make minor repairs on vacuums and other maintenance equipment.
Requirements
- Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
- Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
- Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to operate and use them effectively and make minor repairs.
- Ability to use hand tools and handle fairly light materials manually.
- Perform work functions using ladders and scaffolding.
- Function in adverse weather conditions.
- Make minor mechanical repairs to maintenance equipment.
- Follow instructions, read and understand operational manuals, and keep simple records.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering, chemical cleaning agents, methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance, and ability to use hand tools and handle fairly light materials manually.
- Additional requirements include successful completion of a Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check, Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening, and employment reference checks.

$20.87- $25.88 / hourly; $43,577 - $54,037 / annually
