General Maintenance
About the role
This position will work 7am-3pm with rotating weekends.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of minor repairs in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and/or HVAC trades throughout the hospital and grounds being conscious of safety hazards and cost containment efforts.
- Determine priorities of inspections or repairs based on previous shift reports; makes inspections on equipment; issues work orders for major repairs and documents all completed preventive work orders.
- Periodically accompanies and assists the inspectors during their inspection.
- Transport materials and tools by hand or dolly and performs routine tasks as directed by immediate supervisor; with experience and training, perform progressively more complex tasks.
- Responsible for proper maintenance of water treatment to all open and closed loops; tests for chemical balances and add chemicals when necessary.
- Reads utility meters and checks against company readings to insure against any discrepancies.
- Responsible for familiarization with shop practices, operation and use of equipment, hand and power tools, and materials. Knowledge of all department safety rules. Complies with all regulations imposed by hospital, State and local authorities.
- Prepare daily time sheets as well as various written reports as requested. Responsible for maintaining work areas and assigned job sights clean and orderly and free from hazards.
- Must be able to rotate all shifts, weekends and holiday work schedules to provide general maintenance to entire hospital campus.
- May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. (No contact with medications is allowed.)
- Able to move 50lbs. Required to move throughout the facility’s various buildings, roofs, tunnels and confined spaces. Able to perform all forms of maintenance work on ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, and safety equipment in order to complete work assignments at extreme heights.
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent; trade or vocational school graduate preferred.
- Education courses in blueprint reading or two years minimum experience using blueprints preferred.
- 2 years work experience in general building maintenance preferred.
- H.V.A.C., plumbing, electrical, carpentry and fire alarm systems maintenance experience in commercial buildings preferred.
- Knowledge of Low Voltage Troubleshooting on Hospital Beds, Howard Medical Equipment, Nurse Calls systems, Simplex fire systems, & JCI Metasys BAS preferred.
- Must be self-motivated, good decision maker and able to deal with multiple priorities in emergency conditions.
- Ability to read blueprints, shop drawing and operating instructions on equipment required.
