About the Role

This role involves a variety of tasks in a scrap metal yard, including material handling, equipment operation, maintenance, and housekeeping. The position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles
• Material handling / sorting – pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling up hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs, and other packaging materials
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torqueing pipe fittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts
• Operating recycling equipment for processing metal products (e.g., metal shears, band saw, wire strippers)
• Directing traffic of yard vehicles
• Performing light facility maintenance (painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment)
• Assisting with machinery repair and maintenance
• Housekeeping tasks – sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection
• Moderate and periodic landscaping work
• Organizing materials for efficient use of space
• Disposing of waste materials appropriately
• Inspecting and ensuring cleanup is completed

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test
• Must pass a background check
• Preferred: High school diploma or GED (foreign education acceptable)
• Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively, understand directions (written or oral), and use basic math skills
• Willingness to learn metal sorting, equipment maintenance, and proper PPE usage

Pay

$22/hr
