About the role
Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Skilled Labor position in the Tampa, Florida Coatings Division. We are looking for a highly driven individual that possesses a good work ethic, positive attitude, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, clean, and productive working environment
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout shift
- Inspect and ensure the safe use and disposition of production fixtures, chains and hooks
- Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking
- Hand wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing
- Load and unload racks and fixtures to maximize weight without compromising quality
- Ability to operate pneumatic grinders, pneumatic strappers, acetylene torches, manual strap cutter, banding machine
- Using files, grinders and/or wire brushes, remove icicles, etc. so material meets specification
- Follow all recycling procedures (e.g., recycling of zinc from rack, aluminum, spray cans, wire and dunnage)
- All other duties as determined by management
Requirements
- The physical ability to stand and walk duration of shift
- Must accept cross-training for multiple positions
- Must work well in a team environment
- The ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs
- The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
- Must follow safety rules and report all accidents and near misses to management
- High attention to detail
- Excellent hand and eye coordination with 20/20 corrected vision
Qualifications
- Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Six months of previous experience with hand tools and gauges including impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, taps, oxygen acetylene torches, and mill gauges
- Six months of previous experience in a galvanizing, manufacturing, or fabrication environment

Working Conditions
The employee is continually exposed to a working environment consisting of smoke and irritating particulate impurities, acid fumes from pickling tanks, and large quantities of windblown dust and ash produced as by-product to the process. In addition, the nature of the industry results in extreme heat in the summer (typically 10-15 degrees above outdoor temperature).
Hazards
The galvanizing industry is a heavy, demanding industry that is plagued by many hazards; however, this job description assumes that many of these hazards are avoidable if properly managed by close supervision and skilled employees. Some hazards include:
- Hypersensitive reaction to chemical environment
- Heat exhaustion or aggravations created by blowing dust and ash
- Constant exposure to burns, cuts, contusions of various degrees, and eye injuries
