General Foreman - Transmission (Duke)

About the role

The General Foreman is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient completion of projects involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. They ensure projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe and adhere to company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company safety protocols.
  • Supervise and train crew members in safe and productive work procedures.
  • Lead and teach hot stick work on energized lines.
  • Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings to ensure all team members understand the tasks and hazards involved.
  • String overhead wire, set poles and anchors, install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot and supervise troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems.
  • Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Coordinate and inspect the work of crew members.
  • Ensure all Company vehicles, equipment, and tools are maintained in good working condition.
  • Comply with Company reporting procedures and complete required paperwork.
  • Perform all other related work as required to complete the job.

Requirements

  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Familiar with induced voltage.
  • Able to properly sag wire, phase circuits through substations, identify and locate puller and tensioner setups, and understand grounding procedures.
  • Able to work at heights and/or confined spaces.
  • Able to safely operate equipment and phase out lines using phasing sticks.
  • Able to plan safe work based on job prints or work orders.
  • Able to safely perform a reconductoring job.
  • Minimum 10 years of recent field experience.
  • Able to safely install and remove mechanical jumpers, use a load bust tool, and identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of line protection devices and understands how to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, including outside in inclement weather.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to work outside of the normal work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent exposure to dirt, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment, and vibration.

  • Exposure to various atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Ability to work for extended periods in various locations.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
  • Willingness to work over-time when requested.
  • Willingness to work outside of the normal work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
