About the Role

Oversee a team responsible for inspections, repairs, maintenance, and modifications for cars and/or locomotives, utilizing production machinery and materials. Manage 50 to 75 personnel, ensuring efficient resource use, timely work completion, high-quality output, and adherence to budget constraints. Responsibilities include commuter, regional, and state mechanical operations, contractor management, and oversight of multiple sites. This is a tiered position with levels assigned based on skills and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair programs to enhance availability and reliability.
  • Provide primary leadership for shift or facility, ensuring effective communication of mechanical, safety, and material issues.
  • Utilize Safety Management System to identify and address risks through analysis and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with Amtrak and regulatory requirements for rolling stock maintenance.
  • Manage scheduling and execution of work orders, overseeing proper documentation and recording of results.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Skills

  • Proven leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication, including presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with industry quality standards and ISO quality procedures.
  • Understanding of mechanical crafts and labor contracts.
  • Capability to identify and implement change initiatives to address persistent issues.

Pay

The salary for General Foreman I is $110,000 and for General Foreman II is $122,000. Pay is based on factors including education, work experience, and certifications. Amtrak may apply a geo-pay differential depending on worksite location and offers additional incentive programs, such as a short-term bonus based on individual and company performance.

This position is onsite 4 or 5 days per week with up to 25% travel required.
