About the role
The La Marque Maintenance Office seeks a motivated and detail-oriented General Engineering Tech I or II to support roadway maintenance and transportation projects in Galveston County, including coastal highways and hurricane evacuation routes.
Responsibilities
- Administers construction and/or bridge inspection record-keeping activities in a District Area Office.
- Develops new test procedures, implements use of new equipment and provides technical expertise in maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.
- Inspects complex maintenance and construction-related work to include hot mix overlay to ensure compliance with safety, laws and regulations, contract specifications and departmental procedures.
- Monitors bridge inspection consultant activities and assists with coding as needed.
- Maintains construction records to ensure contractors comply with federal requirements regarding Equal Employment Opportunity, on-the-job training programs, the Historically Underutilized Business and the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise programs.
- Reviews/assists in the development of traffic control plans, coordinates with law enforcement agencies, monitors lane closures at construction sites, documents changes in traffic control setup and coordinates with the Public Information Officer.
- Serves as project leader responsible for maintenance construction inspection activities for a medium to large maintenance construction project or for several small projects.
- Performs pavement evaluations and operates data collection equipment.
- Operates heavy and light equipment, helps the public during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
Requirements
- Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
- Experience: 4 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, or related work experience.
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A" License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
Qualifications
