General Craftsworker (Facilities)
Essential Duties
Credits conducting inspections of facility conditions and operational systems, performing routine maintenance and repairs across multiple trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, to support improvements and upkeep within the Facilities division.
Performs qualified electrical work such as replacing or repairing fixtures (e.g. bulbs, tubes, ballasts, fuses) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
Performs plumbing repairs, as well as painting, carpentry, and masonry tasks as needed.
Maintains the City’s keying and lock systems.
Reconfigures, installs, and adjusts modular office furniture to meet user needs and optimize workspace, utilizing various tools, dollies, and hand trucks.
Manages part orders and maintains necessary documentation.
Provides training and oversight to assigned personnel in standard maintenance, repair, and safety procedures.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED, along with four (4) plus years of experience in construction and maintenance work, repairs, equipment operation, motor vehicle operation, or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge and skills.
- A valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License is required and must be maintained.
- Within six (6) months of hire, obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification and any other certifications as required by law, ordinance, or department policy.

- Ability to read and interpret maps, plans, and technical drawings.
- Skilled and safe use of tools and operation of equipment required for the job.
- Strong ability to work independently, identify issues, and take initiative to perform necessary repairs.
- Effective interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public and coworkers.
Physical Requirements
- To perform the essential functions of the job, a General Craftsworker must be able to perform the following:
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, climbing, crawling, walking, pulling, lifting, fine motor dexterity, grasping, and seeing/observing;
- ability to walk and stand for long periods of time;
- must be able to work outdoors under adverse and varied weather conditions.
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
